What does the lipoabdominoplasty involve?

Lipoabdominoplasty (suction assisted lipectomy) is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the abdomen, and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.

Lipoabdominoplasty is NOT a surgical treatment for overweight but a method to remove localized deposits of fatty tissue and sagging skin and muscles that do not respond to diet or exercise.

The best candidate for Lipoabdominoplasty is the relatively normal weight individual who has excess fat in specific areas of the body and sagging skin. The sagging skin is removed and tightened to the new contour improving body contour irregularities due to structures other than fat that cannot be improved with liposuction alone. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone any kind of body contouring surgery until they are able to maintain their weight loss.

Are you considering getting a Lipoabdominoplasty?

Check out these 3 tips before getting lipoabdominoplasty

Recovery time

The minimum time required to stay in the city of the procedure is at least 25 days from the next day after surgery. This is a procedure that requires the patient to walk from the first day and within what is expected, longer and faster walks will be resumed one month after surgery for two weeks after which two more weeks of gentle jogging will be done and then gentle and progressive reconditioning exercises will be resumed without including abdominal exercises until the Dr. considers it appropriate. The return to work will depend on the activity performed and will have to keep the proportions with respect to the resumption of physical activity.

Postoperative time

Taking into account the condition of the skin and the surgical wound, a daily postoperative period is performed until it is certain that any possible signs of fibrosis have disappeared, that the skin has reattached and therefore has stopped producing fluid, which could represent at least 30 massages in a row (30 days), after which, 2 to 3 massages per week could begin to be spaced out.

Maintain a positive mental attitude, hydrate very well, drinking at least 4 liters of liquid a day between soups, broths, juices, water and at least 2 pedialyte 75 a day for the first week. Increase the intake of iron-rich foods such as red meat, liver, spinach and include an iron supplement (Anemidox), walk with the trunk inclined to reduce the tension of the abdominal wound, avoid wetting the surgical wound for at least 20 days, follow the indications specifically given in terms of postoperative massages, taking medications, use of girdle, foam or epifoam, table, antiembolic stockings, hyperbaric chamber, attendance to check-ups, etc. Physical activity may be resumed progressively after 3 months. Sunbathing is allowed when the wound has completely healed and the bruises and swelling have disappeared, but not before 3 months.

FAQs: What questions do you need to solve?

To prepare for Lipoabdominoplasty, follow pre-operative instructions provided by your surgeon, maintain a stable weight, quit smoking, arrange for post-operative assistance, and create a comfortable recovery space at home.

The best candidate for Lipoabdominoplasty is someone who is in good overall health, close to their ideal body weight, has realistic expectations, and has excess abdominal fat, loose skin, or muscle laxity that cannot be improved through diet and exercise alone.

You may start to see initial results from Lipoabdominoplasty within a few weeks to months as swelling subsides, but final results typically become noticeable after about six to twelve months as the body fully heals and adjusts.

The results of Lipoabdominoplasty can be long-lasting with proper maintenance, although individual experiences may vary based on factors like weight fluctuations and aging.
